Imagine arriving at your hotel by paraglider, soaring in tandem with the in-house paragliding expert (whose job, amazingly, is literally to fly into the resort all day!), over dramatic mountains before landing gently on a pristine beach, where you’re greeted with a refreshing welcome drink to calm your nerves. That’s just one of the (many) incredible ways to check in at Six Senses Zighy Bay in Oman. This luxurious hideaway, nestled between the rugged Hajar Mountains and the turquoise waters of the Musandam Peninsula, offers an unparalleled experience of secluded luxury. It’s well worth combining a few nights in Dubai with a trip to Zighy Bay, as it's a relatively short journey (around a two-hour drive from Dubai followed by a short boat trip or a scenic mountain drive). Prepare to be amazed.

Where is Zighy Bay?

Zighy Bay is located on the northern tip of the Musandam Peninsula in Oman. The setting is truly dramatic – a secluded bay enclosed by towering mountains on one side and the vast Arabian Sea on the other. This remote location adds to the sense of exclusivity and tranquility. You can reach the resort either by a scenic (and sometimes winding!) mountain drive or via a short boat trip. Either way, the journey is part of the adventure, offering breathtaking views of the surrounding landscape.

What are the rooms like?

At Zighy Bay, the “rooms” are actually luxurious private villas, each designed in a rustic-chic style that blends seamlessly with the natural environment. Every villa boasts its own private plunge pool, allowing you to cool off in complete privacy. Top tip: If you're looking for a sea view without the top-tier price tag, we can request one of the two entry level rooms which have a direct view onto the beach. The top villas are perfect for families or groups, offering plenty of space to spread out and relax. During my stay, we were treated to an incredible BBQ in the Private Reserve (the top villa category). Picture a long, 25-person table set up on the beach, with the most amazing food cooked over the fire – it was an unforgettable experience.

What is the food like?

Zighy Bay offers a diverse culinary scene, with several restaurants showcasing both local and international flavours. One experience you absolutely shouldn't miss is the Shua Shack, which takes place once a week. Traditional Omani cuisine is cooked in an underground oven, creating incredibly tender and flavourful dishes. It's a truly authentic and memorable dining experience. For something a little different, Spice Market offers a vibrant atmosphere and a menu inspired by the spice routes of Asia. Summer House provides a more relaxed beachside dining experience, perfect for lunch or a casual dinner. And for a truly elevated dining experience, don’t miss Sense on the Edge, perched high on the mountain with breathtaking panoramic view

What is there to do?

Zighy Bay offers a wide array of activities to suit every taste, from thrilling adventures to more relaxed pursuits. For those drawn to the sea, you can explore the vibrant underwater world with snorkeling or diving, paddle through the calm bay on a kayak, or try stand-up paddleboarding. For land-based adventures, there are hiking trails through the dramatic Hajar Mountains, offering stunning panoramic views of the coastline. The resort can arrange guided treks or provide maps for those who prefer to explore independently. Of course, there's the unforgettable experience of paragliding (as mentioned in the intro!), allowing you to arrive in style and see the bay from a completely different perspective. For a more relaxed pace, you can embark on a traditional dhow cruise, gliding along the coast and enjoying the tranquil beauty of the surroundings. Immerse yourself in local culture with a visit to nearby villages, where you can experience Omani hospitality and traditions. Or simply unwind and rejuvenate at the resort's tranquil spa. They also offer a fascinating sustainability walk, where you can learn about the resort's eco-friendly initiatives and their commitment to preserving the natural environment.

And for some serious downtime, the Six Senses Spa is a must-visit. It's a proper escape, a place to truly switch off and focus on feeling good. They offer a huge range of treatments, drawing on local traditions and using natural ingredients. The spa itself has a wonderfully chilled-out vibe, making it the perfect place to unwind after a day of exploring, whether you've been hiking in the mountains or just chilling by your pool. Plus, they often have visiting experts who specialize in things like acupuncture or reiki, so it's always worth seeing what's on offer. Basically, if you're looking for some serious pampering and a chance to properly relax, the Six Senses Spa is the place to be.

Villas at Six Senses Zighy Bay start from around £800 per night, but prices can vary significantly depending on the season, villa type, and availability.
